Itacaré's surf beach: a powerful beach break with waves all year round and a stage for championships, a 15-minute walk from the center. With strong currents, it is not a beach for calm swimming.

Toward the end of the afternoon, the sand at Tiririca changes roles. Those who spent the day in the water head out, those who just arrived sit down, and everyone becomes an audience. Out front, the waves break hard, one after another, and surfers paddle toward the spot where the set is forming. It is the most famous wave in Itacaré, and the beach knows it: the grandstand fills itself.

The wave that made the beach famous

Tiririca is a powerful beach break with a sandy bottom and waves all year round. It works with swells from the southeast to the northeast, which is why the beach hosts stages of surf championships and is treated in town as the main beach for the sport.

Beginners should only go in on small days. On the others, the sea calls for experience: the waves are strong and there is a current. Those who come just to watch get the best seat at the edge of the sand, with no ticket required.

From the center to the sand

The beach is about 1.5 km from the center, a 15-minute walk. The most pleasant route is the four-beaches trail, which starts after Resende and is easy to walk. There is also Rua da Tiririca, starting from Pituba. As an urban beach on the Caminho das Praias, it can also be reached by car or by a short trail from the street.

Between one set and the next

This is one of the busiest beaches in Itacaré, and the facilities keep up. There are barracas, kiosks and a cabana, plus a freshwater tap for rinsing off the salt and a skate bowl. For those who want to get in the water, there are board rentals and surf lessons. Up the street are the pousadas.

The Easy Drop school and camp is based at Rua João Coutinho, 140, right at Tiririca. Visitors tend to highlight the closeness to the main street, the young surfer vibe, and the convenience of chairs, showers and a restaurant close at hand.

Who it's for

For surfers, for those who want to learn with a lesson and a rented board on a small-wave day, and for those who like watching surfing up close, drink in hand and activity all around. It also suits those who want to stay near the wave and within walking distance of the center.

It is not the right beach for small children or for those who don't swim well: the waves are strong and the current demands respect. Those looking for calm swimming will find more peace at other beaches in town.
