Ten years after the last season, the Northeast has a professional surf circuit again, and in 2026 it stops at Tiririca. On October 28 and 29, the third stop of the Circuito Nordestino de Surf Profissional brings the ranking leaders, R$ 30,000 in prize money and a live broadcast to Itacaré.

The circuit returns

The circuit came back in 2026 with four stops, in Paraíba, Pernambuco, Bahia and Ceará, along with the return of the women's professional category. It is organized by the Federação Pernambucana de Surf, with the backing of the Confederação Brasileira; in Bahia, the stop is sanctioned by the Federação Baiana de Surf, with support from the Prefeitura de Itacaré, Sudesb and ASI, the local association.

The first stop, in March, in Barra do Camaratuba, Paraíba, was won by Israel Junior, from Rio Grande do Norte, and Diana Cristina, from Paraíba. In May, in Porto de Galinhas, the winners were Douglas Silva, from Pernambuco, and Juliana dos Santos, from Ceará. After two stops, Luan Ferreyra, from Pernambuco, and Diana Cristina lead the ranking. Fabrício Bulhões, from Bahia, sits in seventh.

Old friends of Tiririca

Two of the season's champions already know this wave well. Juliana dos Santos won the Taça Brasil at Tiririca in June 2025. Israel Junior was runner-up in the same contest and scored the event's highest mark, a 9.50 on an aerial.

Tiririca, host of seven world events

Tiririca is a beach break with several peaks, surrounded by rocks and Mata Atlântica, about a 15-minute walk from the center. Itacaré has already hosted seven world tour events, including stops on the elite women's circuit in 2006 and 2007, won by Lisa Andersen and Tita Tavares. Adriano de Souza, known as Mineirinho, won here in 2008, seven years before becoming world champion. In June 2025, the Taça Brasil brought together around 195 athletes from 14 states and handed out R$ 250,000 in prize money. It is also home to the Federação Baiana de Surf, which turned 50 in July 2026 and has its registered headquarters on the beach street.

For spectators

There are 64 spots in the men's division and 24 in the women's, with prize money of R$ 20,000 and R$ 10,000. From the sand, the public can watch the heats for free; those who are not in Itacaré can follow the live broadcast announced by the organizers. At the end of October the town also hosts Flicaré, the literary festival, so you can combine both events in the same trip.
