Cachoeira Bom Sossego

The sun reaches the rocks early and stays there. As the morning wears on, the stone already holds the heat, and the water trickling over it carries a little of that warmth, a rare thing in a waterfall. About 50 meters away, the restaurant is preparing free-range chicken and lunch is starting to take shape. Bom Sossego asks little of those who come: park, walk a short stretch and step into the water.

The road to tranquility

The waterfall is 8 or 9 km from central Itacaré, along the BA-001 heading toward Ilhéus. Then comes another 3 km of dirt road in good condition, so there's no need for a high-clearance vehicle or any special preparation. The car gets almost to the restaurant, and from there the falls are about 50 meters away.

It is private property. There is a maintenance fee at the entrance, reported at R$ 5 per person in November 2022; it's worth confirming the current amount before you go. Cards are accepted.

Warm water over the rock

The most distinctive trait of Bom Sossego is its temperature. The sun beating down on the rocks keeps the water warm almost all year, and that changes the rhythm of the visit: nobody gets in shivering, nobody is in a hurry to get out.

It is also a place with a long tradition among Itacaré locals, who choose it as a refuge in high season. Visitors tend to highlight the easy access and the simple, country atmosphere, with no frills.

Lunch fifty meters away

The restaurant is simple and serves free-range chicken, pirão and rice. There's no long menu to wait on: the approach is home cooking, right when hunger strikes after a swim.
